Hello Pearsontown Parents,

We’re off to another exciting week at Pearsontown Year-Round School.   Please make a note of reminder that there will not be school on Wednesday, November 11th due to Veteran’s Day.  We hope you enjoy this day with your child.

On Saturday, November 14th, from 9:00a.m.-12:00 noon, Durham Public School will host its annual Magnet/Year-Round Fair.  If by chance you have neighbors or friends whose children do not currently attend Pearsontown and you know they want to learn more about our program, please share this magnet fair information with them.  If  you are interested in having additional K-5 children in your household attend our school during the 2010-2011 school year, you will need to complete a year-round application for them as well. Year-Round applications will be available on January 4th.

All DPS schools will host “Showcase of School” days that will allow interested parents to visit.  Pearsontown Elementary will have the following dates and times as its Showcase of School days:

November 17th  (9:30-11:00a.m.)

November 19th (9:30-11:00a.m.

December 7th (9:30-11:00a.m.)

December 9th (9:30-11:00a.m.)

December 9th (6:00-7:00p.m.)

One “first-time” event that I ask all fathers/grandfathers/male guardians to place on their calendar this month is our next, “Coffee with the Principal”, which will be held on Friday, November 20th from 11:30-12:30 in the media center.  The topic of this session is “Father Knows Best”. This event will allow dads and other significant male role models to hear the latest research about the impact fathers play in supporting their children’s education.  Secondly, we will look at ways in which Pearsontown is currently addressing the academic needs of students and get suggestions from our “fathers/father figures” about how we might enhance our academic program.  Finally, we will discuss the idea of having a “dads’ event that could bring all Pearsontown dad’s together. Some ideas that have been mentioned from current dads at Pearsontown include a school beautification project, or a mentoring/tutoring project, a father/child service project.  Our goal is have 100 Men at Pearsontown attend this awesome event.  Refreshments will be served!

As always, thanks for your continued support of our school.  We look forward to seeing YOU around at Pearsontown!
